Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Integration

DBmaestro DevOps Platform for MS-SQL Server has a closely coupled integration with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). SSMS is used for developing, configuring, managing, and administering all components within Microsoft SQL Server. It includes both script editors and graphical tools which work with objects and features of the server.

Microsoft SQL Server DBAs and developers using the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio can now utilize a database enforced source control within their favorite IDE (Microsoft SSMS). Those source control operations any changes made to a database object are being documented and cannot be done out-of-process. This makes the database as a working space same as local directories are the working space for the application code. The shared working space, the MS-SQL database, is being protected to prevent code-overrides and out-of-process changes. DBAs and developers can review who is working on which object, the history of changes, and the work-in-progress changes, very easily. The statuses of each object- being locked for modification, work-in-progress by someone else or open for modification – is displayed in the SSMS Object explorer tree and available for anyone.

The working space of the MS-SQL DBAs and developers is the actual SQL Server development database which brings them an immediate feedback on their development efforts. Same processes and methods of development life cycle that exist for the application can now be used for the MS-SQL database directly from the Microsoft SSMS.

DBmaestro DevOps Platform can map a SQL Login connection to a windows user name, and presents the windows user name that performs the actions (check-out, check-in, etc.) in the SSMS Objects Explorer tree.

Benefits:

  • A complete development environment for Microsoft SQL Server developers and DBAs.
  • A managed repository designed for database objects and static data which support an audit report of all changes made.
  • Reduce the time spent on manually generating the database upgrade SQL scripts.
  • Agile and partial builds based on business requirements.
  • Generating an upgrade script safely and fast– using DBmaestro DevOps Platform Impact Analysis.

DBmaestro DevOps Platform integration with Microsoft SSMS is available by adding DBmaestro icons and actions to the Microsoft SSMS Object Explorer tree.
